I use the camera as a tool for defamiliarization rather than documentation. Each image follows a series of studies in which I have shifted the lens incrementally increase my awareness of the relationships between objects in space. In the compressed plane of the image they often join into sculptural forms that were not present in front of the camera.
I edit by subtracting details, tampering with light and color, and in some cases distorting perspective. I try to find a point of balance at which my alterations remain imperceptible but produce a slight oneiric feeling, shifting the images toward the abstraction of memory.
